#15. Farewell

I think it's little bit early to say good-bye, because there remains a final exam! Writing a persuasive eassay was really hard to me, but I have to do one more time.
When I look back, this blog was good. It was the time when I can think and write about something, which I wouldn't do if I didn't take this class. Sometimes I thought there were too much things I had to do, but I'm sure it was really helpful.
Thank you for your effort during this semester, Mr. Hunter. And I hope your teaching experience in Korea will be great asset in your job or even your life.

#12. Leave smokers smoking.

Don’t tell smokers to quit smoking. Why do you ask smokers to stop smoking? There are some reasons you absolutely cannot.
First, everyone has right to do what they want. So, of course they can smoke, whenever they want, and wherever they are. I know non-smokers have right to avoid the cigarette smoke and some people don’t follow the rule that says smokers can’t smoke in public spaces. I’m really sorry about those people. But they will be punished as they disturb the public order. That means they already received punishment and there is no reason for them to be blamed any more for same reason.
Secondly, there isn’t any right for you to press smokers to quit doing what they want to do. We are all same person under the Constitution. Everyone has right to be happiness. For smokers, the time to smoke is the happiest moment. You cannot take away that moment. You shouldn’t suppress smokers by saying don’t smoking.
Lastly, you will say you don’t want to smell the smoke, but what about the vehicle exhaust emissions? Have you ever asked the car drivers like your father or bus drivers not to produce emission? Then, why do you want only smokers not to do so. It’s discrimination for smokers. Also, what about your fart or burp which smell bad? Should I ask you to hold in your fart or burp? It’s unfair.
As you know every people has their right as you, non-smoker do. Please just think about the right of others, smokers. If you do, smokers will appreciate your consideration. And then they will consider non-smokers’ right much more than now.

#11. Stop smoking.

Are you smoker? or non-smoker? If you are smoker, are you able to make me sure that smoking is good for you? Maybe you would feel good for a very short time. And anything else? I’m sure that there is nothing good for you except feeling a short and ephemeral pleasure. Before you smoke, think about your health and your family’s and friends’ health, and the cost you spend for nothing good.
I’m sure I don’t need to talk about your health and others’ health. I just want to talk about our human right. Then you might say it is your right to smoke. What about my or non-smokers’ right? Ok, I accept your free to smoke for yourself because we are in democratic society. Then you have to accept my and non-smokers’ free to avoid the cigarette smoke you blow. Although you don’t smoke just in public places, the problem can’t be gone. What about smell after you smoke? Actually, I don’t care about your health. I just care about my health and I want you to accept many others’ right.
Also, how much do you spend on cigarettes each months? If you had saved money for cigarettes, maybe you might buy the newest computer. Don’t you think that isn’t worth the money you pay? Perhaps, government would raise the price of cigarette. Maybe it would be quite expensive. How much expensive cigarette price will you make quit smoking?
What remains to you? Your dark teeth? really bad breath? How could you kiss your boy or girl friend? What about your trembling hands? You look starving old man. I can’t find the reason why you should smoke. If you have any rational reason, don’t hesitate to tell me.

#9. News

Japan is the one of most powerful country in econimy. A few decades ago, Japanes economy had focused on manufacturing but now on service. That's why communication in English is important. So, Japanes companies try to use only English in their workplaces to improve their English skill. The school enterance system, which focuses on reading and writing, not communicate skills which are listening and speaking, is problem. It says in the near future, the education policy will change in school.

When I think about the effectiveness of language, English is the most important language in the world. But there are no unimportant laguage in the world for itself. That kind of policy would make us take our own language not important. And now Chinese is getting importance. Then if Chinese become very important like English, should we use Chinese in our lives, too? We are Korean, so 'Korean' is most important laguage for Korean. We have to study English as a foreign language

#8. Little Miss Sunshine

This movie is about family whose members have some problems. There are six members in the family. Father Richard, mother Sheryl, grandpa, older brother Dwayne, younger sister Olive, and Uncle Frank. This movie starts with some unstable situation of each member. Then all the family members go to trip to California so that little girl Olive can enter small beauty contest named Little Miss Sunshine. Through this trip they come to find the importance of the family
In fact, if you expect some kind of Hollywood Fun, this movie may not good one. However, I strongly recommend you this movie if you want to think about your family in your life. Like these characters, we always have some problems in our lives. This movie says we can overcome them, because we have family that always takes our side, supports our opinions, and comforts us no matter what happens to us, not because of money, power or honor, something which most of the people pursue believing that those kinds of things could make them happy. I can be happy with my family although I have no money and many problems which never seem to be gone. This movie taught me that.

#7. Mountain.

What do you do if you have free time? You might do something or do nothing, just relax on your bed or sofa. I often do that. Sometimes I don't want to do anything. But, in my case, just relaxing or fiddling around doing nothing isn't really a rest. Maybe my body might be comfortable, but I feel like it won't do me good. I feel the more I take a rest, the more I'm tired.
So, if you are same as me, I recommend you to climb a mountain. It might make you feel fresh. And you might feel your head cleared. It is helpful for getting rid of a mishmash of jumbled thoughts. It may also make you strenthen patience as well as your body. And you can watch the great scene of nature. I felt the grandeur of nature when I went to Mt. Seolak. I sure you would. And for bonus, it would be good to get though some pain. In my case, climbing was useful to overcome the grief of the breakup. You could try.

#6. Heartbroken.

Have you ever fallen in love with someone, or are you doing now? Of course, while you are falling in love, you would be so happy. Maybe you might feel as you have everything in the world. That’s great power of love. However, what if your lover leaves you? What would you feel like after the breakup? Can you handle any emotion that follows after love? Can you lead your routine life?
I can never do that. I’m always heartbroken, desperate and desolated no matter how much I loved someone, no matter what broke up our relationship, or no matter who said good bye first. After breakup, I feel miserable, sad, or painful, all the emotion that can come up in your mind when you are in the middle of extreme pain. I used to be. I hated that feeling, “heartbreak”. But now, I couldn’t have felt that kind of emotion because I have never fallen love for a long time. These days, I think it is more miserable not to feel love toward someone. I can’t even remember that how that kind of feeling makes me painful. Ironically, I sometimes want to be heartbroken. Do you think I am a masochist? Definitely, no! I just need love. Now I think being heartbroken is the privilege of the people who loved.

#5. Sudden sound

When I watch some horror movies, I'm frightend extremely. Because of the sound! My ears are sensitive to noise. Of course, the horrorable scenes make me frightend too. But the main reason why I'm frightened when I watch horror movie is the sudden sound when some ghost or monster come up. And also, the sound which resound around me makes me sometimes surprised. For example the noise when the car stops abruptly, the sound of something which is broken or fallen. So, I often turn my head to the direction where the sound comes from, or sometimes shink up. I hate the sound that makes me frightend and annoyed.

#4. Yarue in Taiwan

Yarue is a port town near Taipei in Taiwan. Taiwan is mostly like Seoul, but the geological park in Yarue is entirely unique from the world. In the Yarue geological park, there are so many rocks which were eroded by the force of nature (wind and wave). Among those rocks, especially there is Queen Rock that resembles the profile of Egyptian queen, Nefertiti. However, you can see her profile on the designated position. When you are in there, you would feel that you are not in the earth. Do you know TV drama program, On Air? Some scene of it was taken in there. The main actor, Park Yong-ha, said “this is like Planet of the Apes (movie directed by Tim Burton)”. I’m sure it’s an exact expression. You couldn’t think there is some place like Yarue in the world before you see it. Each rock might look same, but every rock is different. They are formed by nature, not by artificial force. It’s amazing place of nature. However, it’s very hot. Taiwan is hotter than Korea, but Yarue is hotter than other places in Taiwan, although it’s a port town. You might feel you were in hot spring zone. So, if you want to go there, I recommend you to go in the winter.

#3. My holiday plan

I guess this Chuseok would be same as usual. Maybe most time of Chuseok holiday, I would stay at home doing homework like this or watching TV. But in the morning of Chuseok, I will visit my maternal grandmother in Seoul. My hometown is Busan. When I was child, my family used to visit relatives in Busan. Now we usually didn’t. My father is the oldest and his sister lives near his home (my home). And our family is Christian, so we don’t have any ceremony. So, traditional holiday doesn’t have important meaning to me. And I even think that those holidays are just holiday when I don’t have to go to school. Like Christmas which is only red marked day on the calendar to military personnel. I often visit Busan, so I don’t feel I have to go to hometown because of holiday. Usually 3day is very short to visit that long distant. Instead of visiting relatives, we choose to relax at home. I want to meet some friends whom I couldn’t meet often because of their busy lives. But they are usually out of their town. Even if they don’t leave, there is no place we can go. Most shops shut down. I think it’s a best way to stay at home relaxing and spending time with family, because we don’t usually spend time with our family although we live together. However I have too much homework to do during this holiday. How pitiful I am…

#2. My captain, Park Yeong-Seok.

I hadn't had anyone who I respected until I knew the mountaineer, Park Young-Seok. He is the first man in the world to complete a true adventure Grand Slam. That is to say, he has climbed the world's 14 Eight-Thousanders, the Seven Summits, and visited both Antic and Antarctic poles. There is no man who completed it except him until now.

He was my captain for the long march on foot. I was a member of his expedition. We walked 630km from Haenam, which is called ‘the end of the earth’, to Seoul City hall for 25days. During the long march, he walked with us. Sometimes he cheered us up, sometimes scolded us for our selfishness and laziness. We were going through a great amount of physical and emotional pain, but his word, “Don’t be afraid, I’m here with you”, made us complete the long march. His leadership that I experienced was a just small part in comparison with his other expeditions for Eight-Thousanders(Everest, Annapurna, K2, and so on), the Seven Summits(the most highest mountains in each continents) and Antic and Antarctic poles. My long march cannot be compared with them. His other expeditions were very dangerous. They even required his and his member’s life. However they didn’t hesitate to follow him. He is the only great captain to them like me. As you see his achievements, he is challengeable and never gives up. He didn’t achieve each thing only at once. For example he tried to climb Mt. Everest for 8times. Moreover he tries to perfect to himself. If other people like Elisabeth Holly, who is an authority on collecting data about high mountain climbing, admit his climbing, he’ll climb the same mountain again if he wasn’t satisfied. That’s the most important reason I respect him. I’m really eager to resemble his uncompromising attitude to himself.

His words that I heard make me overcome other hardships in my real life even if he doesn’t be by me. He is always my captain in my life.

#1. I am,,

Hello, this is my first post on my blog. I'm not accustomed with this because I'm not doing these things. But I think this is interesting, and I will get used to this during this semester.
Now I'll tell you something about me. As you see my title of blog, My name is Baek Doo Hyun. I guess when you see my name, you thought the name of mountain which is the tallest in Korea, Mt. Baekdoo, right? Yeah that's my nickname since I was child. At that time I hated it. Even I wished to change my name. However, now it's good. I like my name and nickname because many people who heard my name usually didn't forget it. Although they forgot my name, they still remembered my nickname.
I'm 27 years old. My major is English, but I'm still nervous when I speak Eglish. That's a big problem!! I really hope to speak english fluently. What should I do? Please tell me the way that worked for you!
I love watching movies, so feel free to tell me the name of movies which you feel like recommending to me except horror movie. If I watch that kind of movie, I wouldn't go to the bathroom that night. The horrorible scene wouldn't disappear for a long time.
I hope this class will be helpful to improve writing skills. Then see you in class. Have a good one!!
